Welcome to The Lady That Makes The Bears
Join me on a heartfelt brutally honest journey through mental ill health, as I share my experiences and insights. How making bears is literally saving my life while the NHS continues to fail me. Together, let's break the stigma and find healing and hope.
How it works
Its a very simple process really, one that has been used by Psychologists for years.
Its the "Distraction technic"
I could barely leave my bed, overwhelmed with unbearable whole body pain, a continuous loop of traumatic memories spinning through my head on fast forward. Terrified by a diagnosis of a condition I had no idea even existed and nobody wanting to help me navigate through it I JUST WANTED TO DIE!!!
I had a choice, give in to the suicidal thoughts or try and fix myself. Luckily the stubborn fiercely independent women was still in there somewhere so my journey to fix my broken self began.
My mum had bought me a sewing machine back in 2010 after I was diagnosed with M.E a condition causing chronic pain and sever fatigue. I needed a hobby whilst I got myself back on track, so mum got me a sewing machine so I could make "stuff" to keep myself busy. If only she knew that 11 years later that same sewing machine would literally save her daughters life!
After watching plenty of You Tube videos and downloading sewing patterns I began to spend time making "stuff". I found the concentration needed to make these things pushed the Trauma reel to the back of my thoughts and instead of it overwhelming me it allowed me to calm myself enough for some rational thinking. Don't get me wrong, its not been easy and there have been many days where it hasn't worked where my poor husband has had to injure me screaming about how I no longer want to live. Time spent under the "care" (i use that term very loosely) of the crisis team. However it does help and i am going to keep going with it as I am not getting any other support to get better.
Last year after a summer of selling my bears at boot sales and people telling me they were really good I began concentrating on just making bears. So where did the Crystal element come from? I went to a wellness event with my daughter and soon to be son-in-law, I had a reading by a lovely lady who told me that I should try and make a business out of my bears, accompanied by a message from my mum who passed away last year saying how proud of me she is and that I should go for it. Linda the lady who done my reading suggested I put a crystal in the bears hand to help others heal. That's it, that is where Crystal Cuddles bears came from and although it is not a business just me selling the odd bear on a Facebook page the bears that are helping me heal are now helping others heal as well.
